Good Weekend, Tough Monday

This past weekend I went to Rhode Island for my friend's graduation from RISD (Rhode Island School of Design). Being away impacted my training a bit, and I did not get to run on Saturday or Sunday. I know, this should never be an excuse not to run...but oh well. Graduations are important, and I didn't have much time available to hang out with my friend and her family. A smart runner also knows when to reschedule his/her training sessions. Right? :)

On a side note, the RISD commencement was definitely creative. People modified their traditional caps and gowns, and most graduating folks looked very unique. I felt a little out of place and dull, to be honest, but I had a good time. At the end of the ceremony, the graduates interrupted the Dean's final words to perform a choreographed dance to "Jai Ho" (the Slumdog Millionaire theme song). It was pretty amazing. Here's a link of the dance, if you are curious...

Anyhow - back to running...I got back yesterday and knew today was going to be a "make up for a lazy weekend kind of day." I got up early and procrastinated with other things until about 4:30 PM. Then, out the door I went. I ran a solid 7 miles at a 10 min/mile pace. Despite accomplishing what I set out to do, I felt sick to my stomach afterwards. I wasn't feeling motivated, and it was hard to keep going. Days like today are hard. You kind of start questioning your progress and feeling down. I wish every running day was always better than the previous running day, but that's just not realistic.

I am glad I have a training plan figured out that keeps me on track, however. If I didn't have this piece of paper telling me that I have to run a certain number of miles per day/per week, I'd probably give up a lot easier. If you don't have one, you should definitely create one. If there's anyone out there reading these posts, below is the link to the site I used to build my training plan:

Good luck to us all! Tomorrow is easy run day, so I am feeling lucky already!
